[Reinvention blog post] Take the risk, now...

HAVE AN UNATTAINABLE DREAM? Like starting that business or working for your dream company or traveling the world, etc.

Here are a few steps to get you started...

1. Have a Brain Dump: I tell my clients all the time...begin with getting everything out of your head onto paper. But, do it in an unorganized manner. Pull out a bunch of post it notes and just write. Then take the post it notes and add them to a flip chart page in an organized way. The post it notes allow you to change, edit on the fly and get the thoughts out of your head quickly. I begin all of my Reinvention Retreats with a brain dump exercise see the results...

2. You got to believe it yourself and give it 100%: Do you watch Oprah or Tyra or have you seen a Tyler Perry film. How about a Rocky movie with Sylvester Stallone? Every single person I mentioned above believed it even it required being homeless(Tyler Perry) or taking a job as a cartoon character walking around NYC (Sylvester Stallone). I've had some tough days myself...but now I have business coming out of my ears.
3. Get Educated!: I hear individuals say all the time, I plan to do this, I want to do this... and many of them will also avoid investing in education or attending a workshop to learn how to do what they want to do. In my first two years of being in business, I spent thousands of dollars on training, coaches and attending conferences in my niche. Boy, it has paid off in a big way. Remember, if you don't know, you don't know and you waste so much time and energy trying to figure it out.
4. Deal with the success blockers: We all have them, bad habits that block our success. Identify them, acknowledge them, and find a way to get rid of them or greatly reduce their impact. Some success blockers may include procrastination or overwhelm or fear of change, the list goes on.
5. Know the Result: Another assignment I give my members is to create a vision board. Yes, some of them shrug and call it cheesy, others jump right into it. A vision board is simply a poster board or flip chart paper (you can do it online as well) of pictures of what your dream looks like fulfilled. Here's a vision board that one of my clients, Melinda Emerson, created more than four years ago when she first started working with me and now she's all over the place living her dream (New York Times, Back Enterprise, Major News Papers and Blogs). In the middle, you see a picture of one my SpeakerBlueprint Members, Renee Brown, showing off her vision board, yes, she's already retained two large clients. And the third picture is me, doing another type of vision board called mind mapping, I've realized several of my dreams, including building a highly successful business...they keep coming.
